One of the toughest parts of being a therapist can come down to the clinical documentation roles we fulfill. Is it too much writing? Not enough? Does the language adequately represent the role? There are so many 'what about' and 'how' moments in the documentation. At the end of the day, your clinical voice is what matters. This is a key component to your documentation. YOUR voice should shine through each note, assessment, treatment plan, etc. Make it work for you, and build confidence along the way.
The best way to start your documentation in a clinical setting is to understand the language utilized within it. Graduate programs do not always equip us to have this language when we graduate....a lot of the work is truly independent. If you know the language, great! If you feel suddenly overwhelmed, do not panic! Cheat sheets are always available and you can keep them handy while you are learning. That is the point...we are always learning!
